Katie Giegel
EXPERIENCE
Katie’s practice includes all areas of family law, including divorce, custody, child and spousal support, property allocation and a variety of other issues that families sometimes face. Katie brings warmth and empathy, delicately balanced with pragmatic problem-solving to each client and situation.
Prior to joining Burr Law Firm, Katie served as an assistant public defender, providing legal representation, advice and consultation to clients under criminal investigation and prosecution. Katie has substantial experience resolving legal conflicts through negotiated agreement as well as litigation. While in law school, Katie participated in the West Virginia Innocence Project Clinic, which together with the National Innocence Project, worked to successfully exonerate the Barnett brothers after they were wrongfully convicted of murder.
EDUCATION AND TRAINING
Katie received her law degree from the West Virginia University College of Law and her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Virginia Commonwealth University.
Katie received a merit scholarship to attend law school and during law school served in a number of leadership roles, including as a Peer Advising Consultant and on the Women’s Leadership Council, while also serving the larger community, including by volunteering with HandsOn Greater Richmond and MCV Hospital.

Katie is admitted to practice in DC and Virginia and her admission to the Maryland Bar is pending.
